Bi-Weekly Build Challenge, Week 105: Mid-Century Modern Mansions!

Picture a long, low-slung home with floor-to-ceiling windows, exposed beams and an open floor plan... That description fits a fair number of prairie, ranch, and mid-century modern style homes, which sometimes causes confusion, because mid-century modern is not actually a style: It's a collection that broadly describes architecture, furniture, and graphic design from the middle of the 20th century, roughly 1940 to 1975. What these types of homes share is "an emphasis on lifestyle, a new way of modern living centered around family and home". Mid-century modern homes were inspired by high-style prairie architecture, which emphasized how people lived while melding buildings with their environment. Frank Lloyd Wright, the father of the prairie style, said that in modern U.S. architecture, form no longer followed function: Form was function. Mid-century modern encompasses three well-known styles — international, contemporary and organic. Build the mid-century modern mansion of your dreams and bring the outside in!

    Key Elements:

    • Simple, clean look, inside and outside. Lots of windows.

    • Flat, contemporary roofing.

    • Features "natural" materials such as wood, stone and brick.

Residential ONLY. Must be fully functional. (TIP: Consider using cheats to unlock debug/hidden items and to place objects more freely!)

NOTE: Challenges are open for TWO weeks!

I just remembered the day my grandma walked in on me playing sims when i was about 10 and her flipping out.

    Posted: 04 Jan 2021 01:33 AM PST

I had a male alien sim and his wife in this save in a tiny starter home. My grandma did one of her random stops my the house and came and looked over the shoulder and I remember her gasping and starting to freak out yelling at my dad for letting me play such a inappropriate game......

*The male sim was taking a shower*/

It was inaproprite because I a 10 year old was seeing a pixalated blue alien male take a blurred out shower. I still can't imagine if she knew the sims can woohoo I am in high school know and I'm careful to not let her figure this out

Research into how The Sims impacts thinking and video-game experience

    Posted: 04 Jan 2021 12:23 AM PST

    Hey everyone,

I am a final year psychology Masters student at the University of the Sunshine Coast. As part of my thesis, I am conducting research regarding the relationship between thoughts, video games, and in-game characters, and would appreciate The Sims community's perspective on how the game influences your gaming experience, thinking, and other concepts. I'm looking for participants who are 18+ and have played The Sims (or other games) consistently over the last 12 months. If you're interested the link is below, the survey is anonymous and will take 10-20 minutes to complete, and I would be extremely grateful for your input. Additionally, you have the opportunity to win one of three $50 Amazon vouchers.
