Bi-Weekly Build Challenge, Week 94: Classical Architecture Series; Italianate (19th Century)!

Have you ever driven along a rural country road, only to see a large brick farmhouse with decorative porch and roof line embellished with carved wood details? It might have been an example of a Victorian-era architectural style known as Italianate. Italianate architecture developed in England as a reaction to the then-dominant Neoclassical style. Italianate architecture came from a specific influence, the rambling asymmetrical brick medieval farmhouses found in northern Italy's countryside. This style appealed to people who were looking for a more romantic and less formal architectural style than that reflected in the clean, cold, and symmetrical lines of classicism.

    Key Elements:

    • Low-pitched or flat roofs; roof is frequently hipped.

    • Projecting eaves supported by corbels.

    • Tall, narrow, decorative windows and doors.

    • Towers.

May be residential or commercial (apartments OK!), and fully functional. (TIP: Consider using cheats to unlock debug/hidden items and to place objects more freely!)

NOTE: Challenges are open for TWO weeks!

There is one thing I wish real life would take from The Sims

    Posted: 19 May 2020 09:22 PM PDT

It would be so nice to be able to fall asleep as fast as Sims do. Imagine being able to get in bed and be asleep within 1-5 minutes. Every. Single. Time.

my initial thoughts after the two trailer drops today

    Posted: 19 May 2020 11:58 AM PDT

Please stop insinuating that people who enjoy the sims 4 “don’t play any other games”

    Posted: 19 May 2020 02:29 PM PDT

A common argument that I see on here is that people who like the sims 4 are either young and have never played any of the previous sims games, or that they're people who only play the sims and don't play any other types of games. It feels really patronizing. I'm in my twenties and I've been playing the sims since the sims 2. I also regularly play other games of different genres, although the sims is still probably my favorite (maybe tied with stardew valley because I do like simulation games). And I've got to say, I really like the sims 4. I recognize that it was an absolute shitshow when it was released and I 100% empathize with people's frustrations over its issues. I also think that some of the packs have been lacking in gameplay, especially some of the recent ones like Island living, get famous, and realm of magic, and I'm worried that Eco Lifestyle follows this trend. But I still play the game and enjoy the majority of its content. And I also think people forget the many many issues that the sims 3 had, to the point that certain packs were virtually unplayable (looking at you Isla Paradisio). So for people to tell me that I'm not a real gamer or a real simmer just because I like the sims 4 is pretty insulting. Criticize EA all you want, I admit that they've made some questionable decisions with the sims 4 and that the prices are ridiculous when not on sale, but going after other sims fans is so unhelpful and rude. Ideally we would all just play our favorite games and get along with each other, but it's a video game and we all know how heated game discourse gets. Just try and be more kind to each other.

    When You Weren't Expecting Twins

    Posted: 19 May 2020 02:34 PM PDT

I challenged myself to make sims in Sims 3 with no CC/mods except for default replacement skin and eyes. It actually was surprisingly easy to make sims I personally am happy with!

I’m literally in LOVE with these tiles.

    Posted: 19 May 2020 05:40 PM PDT

    I'd like a musician/music based pack.

    Posted: 19 May 2020 09:59 PM PDT

Let us do jam sessions in groups. Add in some drums maybe a bass guitar. Add in the ability to freestyle/rap, add the ability to make beats like you do with the get famous table. Add in a SoundCloud rip off. Add some build mode things for a recording studio and there you go.
