Bi-Weekly Build Challenge, Week 90: Victorian Architecture Series; Gothic Revival (1830-1860)!

Most American Gothic Revival homes in the 1800s were romantic adaptations of medieval architecture. Delicate wooden ornaments and other decorative details suggested the architecture of medieval England. These homes did not try to replicate authentic Gothic styles — no flying buttresses were needed to hold up the Gothic Revival homes found throughout America. Between 1840 and 1880, Gothic Revival became a prominent architectural style for both modest residences and churches throughout the United States. Characteristics of the much-beloved Gothic Revival style and 19th-century architecture are listed below.

    Key Elements:

    • Pointed & oriel windows with decorative tracery, leaded glass.

    • Steeply pitched roofs/gables, grouped chimneys.

    • Asymmetrical floor plans.

    • One story porches.

Must be residential (NO apartments!), and fully functional. (TIP: Consider using cheats to unlock debug/hidden items and to place objects more freely!)

NOTE: Challenges are open for TWO weeks!
