I might get downvoted for this, but I really don't mind the babies as they are right now in the game. Maybe it has to do with me not being a family player, thus having them in a household is pretty rare in itself, but this didn't stop me from enjoying the toddler update either.

I seriously just think that no matter what they do with babies, they will always remain the most boring lifestage in the game. I play a lot of Sims 3 and babies, despite not being handled as objects and more interactions being available on them, still get aged up after 2 days because I just don't care enough and they're just too boring.

The only thing I'd like is a visual update when it comes to babies. They currently look as if my sleep paralysis demon came to life. Maybe also a few more models with different skin colors and hair. But even if they didn't do this, I wouldn't really care either.

I personally prefer them to put their resources into more important things like improving the trait and emotion system.
