Bi-Weekly Build Challenge, Week 94: Classical Architecture Series; Italianate (19th Century)!

Have you ever driven along a rural country road, only to see a large brick farmhouse with decorative porch and roof line embellished with carved wood details? It might have been an example of a Victorian-era architectural style known as Italianate. Italianate architecture developed in England as a reaction to the then-dominant Neoclassical style. Italianate architecture came from a specific influence, the rambling asymmetrical brick medieval farmhouses found in northern Italy's countryside. This style appealed to people who were looking for a more romantic and less formal architectural style than that reflected in the clean, cold, and symmetrical lines of classicism.

    Key Elements:

    • Low-pitched or flat roofs; roof is frequently hipped.

    • Projecting eaves supported by corbels.

    • Tall, narrow, decorative windows and doors.

    • Towers.

May be residential or commercial (apartments OK!), and fully functional. (TIP: Consider using cheats to unlock debug/hidden items and to place objects more freely!)

NOTE: Challenges are open for TWO weeks!

I used PortraitAI as well and even with weird looking sims it does a good (almost creepy) job. They look so dark but that's what I like about them. Inspired by u/Bombspazztic.

    Barbie having a rough quarantine

    Posted: 23 May 2020 12:32 AM PDT

I am just now realizing how insane it is that we can now put doors and windows anywhere on the wall? They don't even have to be centered. You can just...put them anywhere.

    Posted: 22 May 2020 07:40 AM PDT

That's nuts. That's going to open up so many options for rooms. You can center 2 tile doors now on 3 tile walls. You can put a 1 tile door in a 2 tile hallway. You can put a 1 tile door 4/5ths of the way along a 2 tile wall, slightly askew, with something decorative against the smaller wall.

EVERY SINGLE WINDOW can now be centered with whatever room you've made

    oh my god

Idea for a thing: Household Traits?

    Posted: 22 May 2020 04:51 PM PDT

Not lot traits, but traits that affect every member of a household, no matter where they are in the game world.

Like if your "Household Traits" included "Unspoiled Appetites" your sims wouldn't be able to buy food outside of home because they're gonna spoil their dinner. Or maybe something like "Frugal Family" where your sims just straight up cannot spend money away from home, and if they do, other adult sims in the house get mad at them. Or something like "Hippie Household" where every sim in the house is given special interactions where they can "explain gardening procedures" to people or "ask for fertilizer" and they all feel really good going to places with lots of plants and animals and all have a slight boost to gardening skill, even if none of them have it, because they just want to be good gardeners.

Or "trailer trash" where every sim in the house is more likely to get in arguments, loses hygiene motive faster, and gets lower pay from their jobs and have a harder time being promoted, but they also don't really get bothered by messes, are good with handiness and crafting skills, don't get in trouble for bad grades, and actually raise friendship with people faster because they're not bad people, just kinda trashy.

And a companion trait, "The Joneses" where every sim in the household strives to buy stuff all the time, get good moodlets from replacing furniture and bad moodlets from furniture more than a few weeks old, don't like trash, really care about good grades and promotions, get higher raises, etc. But other sims are kinda not big into them as people because they're seen as snobbish or just show-offs.

Something like that, I dunno. It'd have to have a lot of work put into it, but basically "traits that apply to every single sim living in a household"!

Maybe there could even be an option on each sim to "rebel" against the family, based on traits. So in the trailer trash family one kid could be a Genius and that would give them the option to rebel against the family's trashiness and they would lose the effects of the trait.
